Lyveden is one of the rarest gardens in Britain and remains virtually unaltered since Elizabethan times. Created by Sir Thomas Tresham between 1594 and 1605, Lyveden was intended as an elaborate pleasure garden fashionable of the period. But the death of Sir Thomas in 1605 and his son's involvement in the Gunpowder Plot of the same year has left the romantic remains of his incomplete project.

The garden lodge, symbolic of Tresham's Catholic faith stands silhouetted against the rural skyline, while many of the original garden features have now been rediscovered after years of restoration. Visitors can discover the new orchard containing over 300 old English varieties of fruit tree, as well as explore the terracing, spiral viewing mounts and extensive layout of moats. Lyveden is surrounded by beautiful open countryside, in the heart of the Rockingham Forest
