Born 1928 - English novelist and short story writer.

Began writing while recovering from tuberculosis. First novel Saturday Night and Sunday Morning (1960) achieved major success. Other writing included The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner (1959), Key to the Door (1962) and Leonardís War (1991). Also written plays and screenplays from his novels, poems, childrenís books and an autobiography.
