Born 1708. Died 1776 - English painter and illustrator.

Began his career as a scene painter in London's Drury Lane theatres. Noted for the decoration of the boxes and pavilions at Vauxhall Gardens, London. Also painted portraits, landscapes and historical scenes. One of the founding members of the Royal Academy in 1768.
