Teaching posts at Edinburgh College of Art, lecturer at Architectural Association and professorships at Oxford and Cambridge. Curator of John Soane’s Museum. Publications include Georgian London (1946) and Architecture in Britain 1530-1830 (1953). Awarded Gold Medal for Architecture in 1976.
