Isaacs, whose own childhood had been difficult after her mother’s death and father’s remarriage, became an expert in child psychology and the educational development of children. She studied at Manchester and Cambridge Universities, and lectured at the former and in London. Isaacs advocated the development of skills and independent thinking in children rather than rote learning of facts, ideas put into practice at Malting House School in Cambridge where she taught for several years.
