Surrey Hills

The Surrey Hills is an area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB) that runs from Guildford in the west of the county to Reigate in the East. In between is some marvellous walking country with marvellous views of a part of England that is surprisingly rural. The Hogs Back, Box Hill , Leith Hill , Reigate Hill, Ranmore are all points high on the North Downs with far reaching views over farmland, pastures, unspoilt villages and Grand Country Houses. London 's close proximity (45 minutes by train or car) has shaped the area in recent times - this is the original stockbroker belt - with the advantage of excellent transport links. Principal towns include:

Guildford is a small market city with a ruined castle , famed cobbled high street and superb shopping facilities. The city centre is blessed with numerous pubs and restaurants and there are riverside activities on the River Wey , which passes though the bottom end of town.

Dorking dates back to Roman times and is a charming market town surrounded by Box Hill, Leith Hill and Ranmore. It is known for the many antique shops that line quaint West Street and is the site of Denbies , Englands largest vineyard.

Godalming enjoys a pretty position on the River Wey and is surrounded by many rather beautiful villages like Compton, Shalford, Bramley and Milford.

Reigate is another small market town that typifies the area and although the limits of Redhill creep ever closer the centre of Reigate has retained its charm.

Villages like Holmbury St Mary, Ockley , Abinger, Mickleham, Betchworth and Brockham offer lovely pubs , great beer and wonderful countryside.

Visits to Polesden Lacey , Coldharbour, Gomshall Mill and Shere are a must.
