Andrew Neil

Through election night Andrew Neil symbolised the electorate’s despair at the political system that gave us choices about as attractive as that between herpes, syphilis and Chlamydia. At once polite and dismissive he made many media types seem like nervous pupils chatting to an intimidatingly jolly headmaster, often cut off with few words spoken; and reflected our cynical disregard for the increasingly surreal process as some explained why sinking was good for the Titanic; or a shrug is an undying declaration of love. Back in the studio Dimbles was grumpy, Paxo assertive; but on the barge of the damned Neil smiled like a shark and laughed his way through the pain and the pointlessness.
